We are seeking an experienced and skilled GP to work as a locum in one of our trusted GP surgeries in Bristol.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
Examine patients to determine their health status.
Take detailed medical histories and conduct physical exams.
Order diagnostic tests (e.g., blood tests, X-rays) and interpret results to diagnose illnesses and conditions.
Treatment and Care:
Prescribe medications and treatments based on medical evaluations.
Administer preventive care, including vaccinations, screenings, and wellness exams.
Provide minor surgical procedures when necessary (e.g., suturing wounds, removing moles).
Monitor ongoing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
Patient Education and Counseling:
Advise patients on healthy lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and stress management.
Educate patients about managing chronic conditions and the importance of adherence to treatment plans.
Provide emotional support for patients and their families dealing with serious illnesses.
Referrals and Coordination of Care:
Refer patients to specialists when needed (e.g., cardiologists, surgeons).
Work closely with other healthcare professionals (nurses, physical therapists, etc.) to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records (medical history, treatment plans, prescriptions, etc.).
Complete necessary documentation for insurance purposes and referrals.
Adhere to healthcare regulations and ethical guidelines in practice.
Emergency Care:
Provide immediate care for minor injuries and emergencies.
Stabilize patients in critical conditions and refer them to emergency departments when necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution.
Licensure: A valid medical license to practice as a General Practitioner.
Experience: Clinical experience, often obtained during a medical internship or residency.
Skills:
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and healthcare teams.
Compassion and empathy in dealing with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical software and record-keeping systems.
Working Conditions:
Location: General Practitioners typically work in private practices, community health centers, hospitals, or clinics.
Hours: They may work regular office hours but could also be required to work evenings, weekends, or be on-call for emergencies.
